The adventure begins with the simple idea to get out and visit some out of the way places, meet some interesting people and take in some new experiences. It's about moving forward in a non-conventional way. While my route may pass along many notable landmarks, my hope is that the journey will take me to places about which I have never dreamed.
While the dream is to travel the world, the plan is to do it in segments.
Along the way I plan to share some stories through this website in the form of commentaries, articles, photos and short films/videos. Some of the stories will chronicle the journey and some will be about special topics. If you would like to join me on this adventure please subscribe to this website, my Facebook page and my YouTube channel.
If there is a place that you think that I should absolutely visit, please let me know and I'll try to check it out. And, if you have family or friends that might be willing to host me for a few days, definitely drop me a note.
The John Muir Trail
The John Muir Trail is a long-distance trail passing through wilderness areas in the Sierra Nevada mountain range of California. It is sometimes referred to as the Range of Light. From the northern terminus at Happy Isles in Yosemite Valley and the southern terminus located on the summit of Mount Whitney, the Trail's official length is 210.4 miles (338.6 km), with an elevation gain of approximately 47,000 feet (14,000 m). The trail passes through some of the most picturesque areas of Yosemite, Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks. The trail was named in honor of John Muir. I hiked this trail with my friend Johnny. Here's the story.
NWxMW
The summer of 2016 was amazing. It seemed like the perfect endless summer or perhaps I was just happy to be alive. I traveled to the NorthWest by the MidWest (NWxMW) of the United States visiting a number of state parks, national parks and roadside attractions. Then my family and I hopped on a airplane and flew to South Korea. We took a tour circling the country visiting a number of urban and rural areas. Then a buddy and I strapped some backpacks to our bodies and thru-hiked the majestic John Muir Trail.
Chasing Sunsets in Cuba
In 2015 I took bicycle ride across Cuba. I started in the capitol city of Havana, crossed the island country by train to the eastern most town of Baracoa, then began to bicycle my way back along the southern coast to Havana. I had the opportunity to pass through and view life in small villages, medium sized towns and a few large cities. Unfortunately my adventure was cut short due to a near death experience.
SEA To Shining SEA
During the summer of 2014 I took a journey to South East Asia. The first part of my trip was an motorcycle ride around Vietnam. The second part of my trip involved transportation by any means possible through Southern Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Thailand. The map below was a rough estimate of my desired route, but I ended up diverging from this route quite a bit.
Boats, Windmills and Tulips
In 2014 I traveled by river boat around The Netherlands and Belgium. The route included Amsterdam, Hoorn, Arnhem, Paleis Het Loo, Kinderdijk, Antwerp, Bruges, Ghent, Walcheren, Veere, Rottordam, Keukenhof Gardens and back to Amsterdam. (Click on any of the highlighted cities to see stories)
Texas to Tierra del Fuego
In 2011-2012 I completed an adventure I called "Tejas a la Tierra". Or in other words, Texas to Tierra del Fuego. My route changed based on which way the wind was blowing. The plan was to jump on my motorcycle, start in Texas and head South... through Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama. Then I crossed over the Darien Gap to South America. I continued through Colombia, Ecuador (with an excursion to the Galapagos Islands), Peru, Chile (with a stop at Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego, the southernmost place on the continent), Argentina, Uruguay, Bolivia, Paraguay and Brazil. I was fortunate enough to stop by the Amazon and Antarctica while I was in the neighborhood. Then I returned back home to Texas. Other adventures not documented on this website include Coastal Australia, Western Europe by Train, Climbing Kilimanjaro, Safari in the Serengeti, The Machu Picchu March, Hiking the Solukhumbu Himalayas, Criss-Crossing China, and many more.
